Sliced but not diced, mildly tenderised

I'm having one of those weeks when I'm managing to gradually gain a small cut or burn on every one of my fingers. I'm also getting a nice collection of bruises on my shoulders from walking into walls and at one point into the television(!). I'm clumsy all the time, but I generally keep it in check enough that I don't give myself minor injuries every day, weird how I get like this every now and again. Also, it's winter so I have dry skin, split lips, runny nose, ear aches and a cold sore. Grr. Worse still, it's actually only autumn!

Work is going pretty well, I'm now gradually getting caught up to about where I should be after getting my excess workload delegated away. I also have a full team and someone else starting next week, which should help. No visits to London in the near future too, so should have a straight run at things.

I was going to practice flute when I got home, but I started losing my voice in the second half of the afternoon, so I've wisely opted to stay quiet, rest and not strain my lungs and throat. I did watch See Hear though (although it turned out to be mostly in American Sign Language so probably did more harm than good), and then I watched Doctor Who and House :) I never noticed how much the Autons look like Mr Humphries from Are You Being Served when wearing their 70's wigs :)

Out of curiosity, how long have you been playing flute, and which flute are you playing? Flute was actually my first instrumet. I don't play it nearly as much as I used to when I was younger, but it's still my favorite and the one I'm most flexible on.

On and off for about four or five years, I generally practice enough to get good enough to play several tunes without the sheet music but then lose heart when I can't get past the first three notes in the second register (although I've made that breakthrough this time). One of these days I'll get some tuition, rather than teaching myself. I really love flute music.

Hm...have you had the thing checked for leaks? That's generally what will hork you when you enter the second register. I have to constantly fuss with and tighten my screws and springs, as my flute's 3 times older than I am.

Sounds lovely all the way up to B in the second register and then I can't get a note at all. This is as likely to be lack of practice than anything else. Watching a tuition DVD once added another 2 notes to my scale. Still, might be worth taking it for a check up in the new year when I've recovered from the cost of xmas, thanks.

I just remember when I was beginning that I sounded horrible in general and had a limited range, and it was actually that all the springs and pads needed work. You can probably check most of the things yourself without spending any money if you know a thing or two about your flute's mechanics.

Hm...but you can get up to B, so it may not be about the key action or pads, then. C is really open, and you're able to play the lower D...hmm...

(sorry...off in engineer headspace)

Taking a Chinese/heliocentric view of the seasons, I'd say it was winter.

The giant green and red cockringsxmas decorations up everywhere probably say winter too. I'll call it winter when December starts.
